Drive with a view

image

I can’t be the only on who hates being behind an 18 wheeler in a town you don’t know and I can’t read the street signs because of the wheeled wall in front of you.

So here’s the idea.

Mount low cost flexible video screens on the back doors of trailer trucks. Someday soon these screens will be able to go on to surfaces like this just like a giant sticker or wallpaper.

The front of the truck has a camera lens with a similar view a car might have traveling behind the truck. (In a perfect world the lens would change based on the rear car distance.)

From the Drivers POV you can see and read what’s in front of the truck almost like wasn’t even there. The trailer door latches and mechanical parts are still visible so it doesn’t totally disconnect drivers from reality.

Now the question is, do you cover the whole trailer to improve the view from all directions?

Quackers

Here’s my concept restaurant I doodled up called “Quackers”. Think Potbelly and Zoup smashing into each other. I love Potbelly and I like Zoup.  But I think if you serve soup you should offer more than oyster crackers and saltines.

So having an uninspiring cracker choice got me thinking and this is what I came up with.  I think soup should be just as much fun to load up on as Frozen Yogurt, like you would if you went to Orange Leaf.

Moving Art

Shouldn’t most art move you?

The other day sitting at the tracks waiting for the train to pass. My wife and I really enjoyed the art show that was flying by at 20 miles an hour.

This particular train had nearly every other car tagged with some kind of graffiti art. Some of the art seemed intentional while others were clearly graffiti. What I really enjoyed was was the difference in the cars and waiting to see what came next. I also noticed I didn’t mind waiting for the train. I was more entertained by is passing train cars than just being annoyed that I had to stop.

ART TOUR

Could this be a new form of an art show hitting the road? Brands are buying ad placement on trucks, trains and planes, by skinning images and text over the whole vehicle. This could be a great way to get more artists working while helping to make industrial containers more visually appealing. Hey, maybe if the cars are placed in the right order a story could be told.  Plus the entertainment level had some value for me even if it only serves the railroad company by giving me that moment to stop and smell the roses.

Rated R

Opportunity Lost

Brands are missing a massive opportunity at movie theaters.

The worst part about seeing a movie is the advertisements and electronic slide shows that barely entertain or inform. You’ve really got me for the next 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on how early my wife is willing to get to the theater.

It just so happens that most of the movies I see are PG or R and all the commercials I see before my show starts are G and they are all the same ads I can and do see on TV.

Stop showing me the the stuff I’ve already seen a million times on TV. Here’s your chance to change your message and do something daring.  Like actually make an R Rated commercial! I’m in a place where there shouldn’t be any kids but that’s a different post. It means your ad buyers might have to pay more attention than just the shotgun approach to where they are placing your next message to me. Brands, you keep having the same old generic message and it’s boring and is just a neucence while I’m waiting for the movie to start.

Here’s 3 things you should do.

  1. Entertain me. I mean really entertain me. I just paid 30 bucks to sit here you have my nearly undivided attention. GO!
  2. Talk to me. You have more time to show me something interesting than you do on TV way more time. Make the best of it.
  3. Do you want to play a Game? YES! Look spend the next 10 or 15 minutes making me and the whole theater particpate in something fun that earn points, win prizes or makes me bookmark your website. Now’s a good time for us to really use our phones before the movie starts.

If brands started doing something far more engaging I wonder if people would start showing up earlier?

Okay now sit back and enjoy the show but please turn your cell phones off.

Placesaks – New idea for your paper bag

Turn your paper bag into a placemat, save the extra paper.

I’ve been doing this for a long time with my paper sacks or fast food bags.  I just rip it open and make a placemat for my food.  It works great and it’s easy to roll up and toss what’s left over.  I think if more fast food resturants did this they could save some expenses on paper for placemats plus create a new oppertunity to do something creative with inside of the bag.

Once you open it up there could be coupons, ads and games.  At least now your food is only covering it up. Maybe reveal a story as you eat? The other way the bag is covering up your placemat, marketing opportunity lost along with more to throw away.

(If you’re a paper bag manufacture and would like to license this idea,  contact me at this email address. other wise I guess you can just take it…)

Interest in Pinterest

If you’re creative you’ll love using Pinterest, if you’re not you’ll love using Pinterest because it will make you feel creative.

I’m sure you’ve heard of Pinterest by now if not just ask your web crawling nerd friends they’ll tell you all about it.

1 minute into using Pinterest

1 minute into using Pinterest and seeing shots from all around the world I was was drawn into the beautiful photography.  I look at a lot of stock photo sites and Flickr.  But some of these images are just stunning, for some reason I’ve never seen anything like these photos.  These photos are not just images of great looking places but products, and DYI projects I’ve never seen before.

Okay I’m off track, that will happen a LOT when you start using Pinterest.

1 minute into using Pinterest I was mesmerized by the amazing photography of far away places. Then I saw this thing that I thought I could do that.  I have one of those things if I just get a some paint and glue I could…  sorry

1 minute into using Pinterest I was mesmerized by the amazing photography of far away places.  I kept thinking I want to go to there and there and there….

PICK – CLICK – TRIP

Then I thought this would make a GREAT travel website!  Here’s how it would work.

  1. Pick the PICs of far away places.
  2. CLICK the Buy Button
  3. GO!

The website does the rest.

Other possible features:

  • Running Total ( but that might scare people )
  • Distance You’ll Travel Meter
  • How many stamps you’ll get on your passport
  • Path Designer so you can see where your trek will take you.
  • Comfort Level Meter, in case you’re a timid person and don’t want to go to far off the reservation.
  • Bucket List, you know for future trips.

Plane ticket, lodging, passports reminders, tours, mail holding and stopping the Sunday paper. Whatever it takes to get you going to make that an experience of a lifetime the site would just take care of it. It could happen within 3 click or 5 at the worst. Then you go in and noodle it if you really want too. Plus every picture you take while on that trip. Right! Ends up on Pinterest to sell more trips.

Stick that in your board Pinterest.
